On suffering

I hate when I read about someone “suffering” from this, that or the other sort of disorder. I don’t feel as though I am suffering because of having muscular dystrophy. Suffering is a state of mind.

There are people all over the world, in worse situations than me, who are able to smile and laugh and are far from suffering. They decide not to suffer. I decide the same.

It’s presumptuous for someone to write that I am “suffering” from muscular dystrophy. I can rattle off about ten people right now who I know are “suffering” from bad jobs, bad relationships, bad decisions, and many other things that have nothing to do with having a disease. I’m definitely not suffering compared to these people and would appreciate if people wouldn’t assume that I am.
